  • Art Camp, Session 2 (Grades 4-8)

    Make a sketchbook. Get ideas for your own artwork inspired by local Chicago artists. No previous art experience necessary. Make sculptural and mixed media (screen-printing, soft sculpture, wood, and more) in the Taft high school art studio. Wear old clothes or bring a smock. $60 + $20 material fee.

    We strongly recommend that students attend the drama camp as well if they are interested in the art camp. The drama camp is offered from 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM on the same days as art camp.

    This camp will emphasize individual skills, fundamentals, and team strategy. Areas covered include everything from outfield and infield play to base-running, sliding and much more in this dynamic youth baseball camp.  Our staff will conduct individual and group instruction for all players. Groups rotate throughout the day to different stations covering pitching, catching, infield defense, outfield defense and hitting.  All campers will receive a t-shirt.

    Richard Pildes and Mark Madden

    Richard Pildes is the Head Varsity Baseball Coach at Taft High School.  Coach Pildes has coached for 38 years, including the last 34 as the head coach at Taft.  Coach Pildes was inducted into the Illinois Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2016.  Among his team's accomplishments are 12 conference championships, seven trips to the city playoff semifinals, and runner-up showings in 2010, 2014, and 2016.  The Eagles also won an IHSA regional in 2009 under Coach Pildes' leadership.  

    M. Madden is a professional educator with a Masters in Administration. During his experience in the field of education, he has collaboratively helped numerous city and suburban schools at all levels develop the athletic department in all designated areas stressing improvements in academics, athletics, and strength and conditioning/kinesiology.  Madden has coached boys basketball at Ridgewood and Niles North High School, while also coaching baseball at Ridgewood and Walter Payton High School, both as the assistant varsity and sophomore coach.  Madden has played baseball at the collegiate level and tried out for the Arizona Diamondbacks on a personal invite. He currently teaches physical education and kinesiology and is proudly the head sophomore girls basketball coach and assistant varsity boys baseball coach for William Howard Taft High School.

    Aaron Levin, Brett Nishibayashi, Mark Madden, and Tim Reamer

    Coach Levin is entering his second year as the boys varsity basketball coach at Taft, and third year on the coaching staff. Prior to Taft, Coach Levin served as the interim head coach and assistant coach at Lehman Campus High School in the Bronx, NY. As a player at Grinnell College in Iowa, Levin was part of the winningest class in program history, and Grinnell won the national scoring title all four years Levin played there. Coach Levin is a native of Oak Park, IL.

Reamer has come back to Taft after graduating college to teach Physical Education and coach basketball.

    Coach Brett is graduate of Taft ('97). He played division 1 (Northeastern Illinois) and division 3 (Carthage college) basketball. He has been coaching for 14 years at Taft, completing his 7th season as head coach this past year.

  • Bowling Camp (Grades 5-12)

    The objective of this developmental camp is to provide an opportunity for all new players to learn the game of bowling and experienced players to grow in their skill set. This is a two-path camp, one for new bowlers and the other path for the experienced bowler. Basic knowledge and skills will be introduced and instructed through games, drills, and competitions. Safety and fundamentals will be emphasized throughout in order to create a positive experience for players of all abilities. All players are encouraged to bring as much of their own equipment as possible. Our camp staff consists of experienced coaches along with current competitive bowlers.

    We ask that all participants arrive at Habetler Bowling Alley 10-minutes early each day.

    Our end-of-summer super fun cheer camp is designed for grades K through 9.  We will pack the morning with fun activities, including learning cheers, dances, stunting, and tumbling.  No experience necessary.  T-shirt and poms included in registration!  All campers will:

    1) Be grouped based on their ages and abilities.

    2) Learn the fundamentals of cheerleading with both individual and group instruction. 

    3) Practice and execute proper technique during all skills performed (stunts, tumbling, dance, jumps, etc.)

    Don’t wait until the school year begins and things get hectic… come to these workshops to get a Jump Start on your college application process!  Session 2 will include a presentation from Anna Rodriguez of Northwestern Academy on how to make your application stand out to highly selective schools and how to write a strong personal statement that will be submitted to most colleges and universities to which you apply.  Additionally, we will get you started on your Common Application for college admissions and provide you with concrete direction of what you should be working on over the remaining weeks of summer before the chaos of senior year sets in!

    Join us this summer for some rockin’ out fun. This is not a class to teach music to those with no knowledge at all, but rather a time to get better from playing with others. Don’t worry about your skill level, beginner to advanced is cool with us. No pressure, no being put on the spot...just jamming at your own level, learning a few new skills (probably teaching us a thing or two), and then bringing it all together with a jam out performance at the end of the summer.

    If you have a guitar, bass, amplifier, etc, it’s best to bring them so you have more playing time as equipment on hand is limited.

It will be run by the Taft Boys and Girls Soccer Coaching Staff and coaches from other local high schools. The focus will be on strength and conditioning for the soccer player and fundamental technical skills.  All campers will receive a t-shirt.

    Come and learn from the Super Conference Varsity Taft Eagle Volleyball Program. For one week we will be working on the fundamentals of passing, hitting, serving, blocking and team strategy. It will make you a better all-around Volleyball player. Plus you will be getting to meet the Head Varsity Coach, William Angel, and the Sophomore Coach, Allison Taylor, along with Varsity players and Alumni of the program. We will end camp with a tournament to allow you to show off all of your Volleyball skills! Come meet fellow teammates and work on your game! All participants will receive a tee shirt!
